streda, 7. decembra 2011
Appeal to parliament for a 'yes' to the Baltic-Adriatic axis.
After a brief but cordial meeting with EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, an event on the Baltic-Adriatic Axis in the European Parliament was organized by MEP Cancian (Italy) and the two Austrian MEPs, Hubert Pirker and Jörg Leichtfried. The proposal by the European Commission announced the Baltic-Adriatic Axis as one of the top ten European transport corridors. Now this proposal has to be accepted by the European Parliament and the Transport Ministers.
Transport Commissioner and Vice-President of the European Commission showed himself as an ardent supporter of the project. All MEPs, the political representatives of the regions, the author of studies of the Austrian Federal Railways and the northern Italian ports were in agreement that the proposed axis will positively influence the economic development. Furthermore, the shift from road to rail means major benefits for the environment and safety.
The president of NAPA and port president of Venice, Paolo Costa, was also present during the day yesterday. It was agreed to improve the rail route between Venice and Villach for the freight transport.
