On the 6th of December 2011 Carinthian Governor travels again to Brussels to talk with top officials from the European Commission.
One focus of the talks in Brussels will be the Baltic-Adriatic axis. The Governor will attend a conference at the European Parliament on "Baltic-Adriatic axis as part of trans-European networks" and about the importance of the axis for Europe. After the European Commission has already announced the Baltic-Adriatic axis in its proposal for the future core network, the next decision regarding the core network, will be in the European Parliament. That Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas will be present as keynote speaker, underlines the importance of this event.
Furthermore, a meeting with Paolo Costa, former Italian Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Port of Venice was organized. In the past week a cooperation agreement between the province of Carinthia and the NAPA ports in the upper Adriatic area, which includes the ports of Ravenna, Venice, Trieste, Koper and Rijeka, was signed. Now the role of the marshalling yard Fürnitz as the first inland port for NAPA and hinterland-hub between the ports the Baltic-Adriatic Axis and corridor X will be deepened. Due to the strategic location, Villach-Fürnitz will be expanded to an important hinterland-hub between the NAPA ports and states along the Baltic-Adriatic corridor as well as the X axis. Due to the expansion of the premium Dryport Fürnitz many logistics processes can be improved and simplified.
