Governor Gerhard Dörfler and Chamber President Franz Pacher met on Monday 01.08.2011, and discussed topics for future infrastructure projects and Carinthia. Both noted the tremendous importance of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor.

The Governor informed that Carinthia is very successful in promoting the BATCo project as the Lead Partner of this European transport axis and make a very positive atmosphere for the implementation. The goal is that the EU takes over the Baltic-Adriatic Axis in the rail network priority. So that product flows could be redirected from north to south and east of Carinthia in order to achieve big savings of time. Due to the rail link between the Mediterranean and the Baltic, products from Asia would reach up to ten days faster their destination than via Rotterdam, because the ships would not have to drive around Europe, Dörfler said. Enormous economic potential is given with this European Axis .

The Baltic-Adriatic Axis has been already ranked in the TEN priority ranking of projects, which shows that the EU has recognized the European importance of this project. The president pointed out that important regional and local economic centres have to be connected as well. Carinthia was always trying to improve the transport infrastructure and to enhance the business location. "Only the most modern infrastructure, whether in transport or energy supply, can ensure the competitiveness of the location," said Pacher.
