Model of virtual logistic incubator for SMEs

Polish partners of BATCo project are aware of the importance of speed and safety in the transport of goods in the development of enterprises. Therefore, the Regional Development Agency from Bielsko Biala and Upper Silesian Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship from Katowice intend to create in the Silesia region model of virtual incubator of logistics for small and medium enterprises. The model will build on the existing and rapidly growing logistics center "Euroterminal" in Sławków.

"Euroterminal in Slawkow" Ltd is a logistics terminal operating in the Katowice Special Economic Zone. The terminal is situated at the junction of the Western-most section of broad-gauge (1,520 mm) railway line and European standard-gauge (1,435 mm) railway line. The direct connection with the intercontinental Trans-Siberian Railway Line and the so-called New Silk Road from China via Kazakhstan enables the development of container transport between the Far East/Asia and Western Europe. The Euroterminal is also located at the intersection of Pan-European Transport Corridors, connecting the East with the West (the Pan-European Transport Corridor III) and the North with the South (the Pan-European Transport Corridor VI) of our continent.
So far, the terminal is mainly used by large transport companies possessing significant technical and personal potential. Thus the concept of preparing a master computer application that will allow SMEs access to logistics infrastructure and terminal services rendered him was born.
Creating the virtual logistic incubator – general assumption:
- That would mean computer system / interface connecting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating in the field of intermodal truck transport (at the beginning with the resources of EUROTERMINAL logistic system, which in the future will be developed by means of connections with other systems)
- At first such system would allow contractors to log-in in order to check the situation in the depot place in the logistic centre
- Such solution corresponds with the innovative model of co-operation with SMEs
The system will also allow the effective management of warehouse space in both the sender and receiver, as well as in the terminal.
The initiators of the virtual terminal logistics are hoping that a similar model can be implemented in a similar logistics centers located in the area of European Transport Corridor No. VI. Work on the model is expected to begin in July 2011.
